Tree Nursery ’t Kempke specialises in growing container trees. These trees are cultivated with great care in a field of 10 acres. The family Van Meerten has been running this tree nursery located in Opheusden for years. The family company has since grown into a complete supplier of trees and plants in own country, but also in Belgium, Germany, Poland and Scandinavia. And since Tree Nursery ’t Kempke features an own truck they can deliver the trees and plants in a careful and quick way from the Betuwe region to anywhere in the Netherlands and abroad.
In 1980, Jan van Meerten started with his brother to cultivate open ground avenue trees at a small scale. After a number of years they ceased the collaboration, after which Jan decided to continue by himself. From open ground avenue trees Jan switched twenty years ago to avenue and ornamental trees focused on container cultivation in order to have a broad range at every moment of the year. Not just the assortment changed, but also the composition of the family business. Jan’s own sons, Jan Jr., Gijs, Wim and Erik, came on board to work at the nursery from 2000 onwards. To this very day they are, along with another 3 employees, the strong team behind tree nursery ’t Kempke.
